The gist
  • Actress Kemi Afolabi says celebrating another person's suffering or death is diabolical.
  • She reminded followers that death comes to everyone, without naming any incident that sparked the post.
  • The post comes as she continues treatment for lupus, which she first disclosed in 2022.

Nollywood actress Kemi Afolabi has spoken out against people who celebrate the suffering or death of others, describing the behaviour as diabolical.

In an Instagram post on Friday, the actress said death is certain for everyone. "We all are gonna bite the dust. Your jubilation over another's afflictions or death is diabolical," she wrote.

She did not say what prompted the post. According to The Nation, she has not linked it to any particular incident, though she has spoken in recent months about resilience and gratitude.

Her health battle

Afolabi's message comes as she continues to manage lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs.

In August 2026, the mother of one said she had undergone several surgeries after a severe lupus flare. She shared a hospital video at the time while marking her daughter's 16th birthday.

She first made her condition public in 2022 in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, saying her doctor had told her she had about five more years to live.

For many Nigerians living with long-term illness, her posts have become a source of encouragement. Her latest message also carries a simple warning about how people treat those who are sick or grieving.

What happens next

Afolabi has not announced any new treatment or event. Her focus, going by her recent posts, remains on her health and on urging people to show kindness rather than mock others' pain.
