Kunle Afod opens up on split from wife Desola, says acting comes first
- Nollywood actor Kunle Afod has confirmed his separation from wife Desola Afod in a YouTube interview.
- He blamed jealousy and cheating suspicions on both sides and said his career leaves little time for home.
- Afod also said he sometimes goes six months without calling his children because of work.
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has confirmed that he and his wife, Desola Afod, known online as Celeb Wife, have separated. He spoke about the split for the first time in an interview with broadcaster Kasnasty Sugar on YouTube, published on Thursday.
Reports of trouble in the marriage first surfaced in February 2026, when it was said that Desola had moved her belongings out of their matrimonial home. Until now, neither of them had addressed the matter publicly.
Asked what caused the separation, Afod did not give a detailed account. He pointed to jealousy and cheating allegations from both sides, and said women struggle to accept the same behaviour they show. He also argued that the demands of acting often leave him with little time for his home.
Career before family, he says
Afod said his love for his craft comes before everything else, including his marriage. According to him, actors love their work more than their partners, and a truly committed creative person would let go of a relationship rather than leave the job.
"I was born for this and I will die for it," he said.
He also said he sometimes goes six months without calling his children because of work, and that he once turned down a chance to relocate abroad because of his career.
On the marriage, he suggested that close friendships between a wife and other women can breed suspicion, and he questioned what he called a double standard over the use of bedroom toys, saying a woman who uses them should not object if her husband does the same.
The interview drew reactions online. One commenter, quoted by Legit.ng, said there is no excuse for leaving a wife if you love her and your children, urging the couple to forgive each other. Another said there is nothing anyone can do if their time has not come.
Afod is in the United States to promote a new film, according to Legit.ng, and has shared photos with his grown-up daughter there.
What happens next
Neither Afod nor Desola has said whether they have filed for divorce, and no court process has been reported. For now, the separation stands as the actor described it: a private matter he has now spoken about publicly.
