  • NDLEA chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa inspected the new Command School at the agency's Yola barracks on Friday.
  • He urged pupils to be disciplined and punctual and to stay away from illicit drugs.
  • Marwa said the NDLEA will keep investing in the school and plans to formally launch an officers' wives association.

The chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (rtd), visited the agency's barracks in Yola, Adamawa State, on Friday to inspect its newly established Command School and meet the pupils, students and teachers there.

The school is the first of its kind for the agency. According to Marwa, it was set up so that children of NDLEA personnel can get quality education close to where their families live, rather than far from the barracks.

Speaking to the students, he asked them to take discipline, punctuality and hard work seriously, saying these values would help them reach their goals and do well in examinations. He also urged them to respect their parents and teachers, to worship God, and to stay away from illicit drugs.

The NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement that Marwa promised the agency would keep supporting the school so it grows into one of the country's leading basic institutions.

Support for officers' families

Marwa also met members of the NDLEA Officers' Wives Association and other families living in the barracks. The women thanked him for siting the school inside the barracks, describing it as an investment in their children's future, and praised what they called the transformation of the agency under his leadership.

In reply, Marwa thanked them for their support and said the welfare of personnel and their dependants would remain a top priority. He said plans were at an advanced stage to formally inaugurate the Officers' Wives Association, which would give the women a structured way to organise and contribute to the wellbeing of the wider NDLEA community.

He was accompanied on the inspection by the Zone 2 Commander, ACGN Ishaku Yusuf Kwajafa, and other senior officers.

For ordinary Nigerians, the visit points to how the NDLEA is spending part of its attention on staff welfare, not just drug enforcement. Officers posted to barracks in states like Adamawa often worry about schools for their children, and a school on the premises can ease that burden and help keep experienced staff in service.

What happens next

The agency has not given a date for the formal inauguration of the Officers' Wives Association. Marwa said only that preparations are at an advanced stage. The school, now in its first set of pupils, is expected to keep expanding with the agency's support.
