Lagos resolves 528 Ikeja Electric complaints, ₦26.2m in refunds and credits
- Lagos consumer agency LASCOPA resolved 528 of 556 complaints against Ikeja Electric from January to September 2026.
- The agency facilitated ₦26,243,675.75 in credit adjustments and refunds for affected customers.
- The agency holds a monthly parley with Ikeja Electric on the last Thursday of each month.
Lagos residents who disputed their electricity bills with Ikeja Electric got some relief this year. The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) said it resolved 528 complaints against the power company and facilitated credit adjustments and refunds totalling ₦26,243,758.75 between January and September 2026.
The agency said it received 556 complaints against Ikeja Electric in those nine months. Of these, 528 were settled while 28 remain ongoing, a resolution rate of about 95 per cent.
For an ordinary Lagos household, billing disputes matter. Overbilling and estimated billing are common complaints, and a wrong bill can swallow a chunk of a family's monthly budget.
How the complaints are settled
Yusuf Musiliu, who heads LASCOPA's Complaints and Mediation Department, said the agency receives and analyses complaints submitted through online and offline channels. It then brings Ikeja Electric officials and affected customers together at a stakeholders' parley to discuss the grievance and reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
That parley holds on the last Thursday of every month, giving residents a regular chance to raise unresolved complaints directly with the company.
LASCOPA's General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Afolabi Solebo, restated the agency's commitment to fairness, accountability, transparency and better service in electricity distribution.
The agency urged customers to follow the established process rather than resort to self-help. It advised anyone filing a complaint to bring supporting documents such as electricity bills, payment receipts and other evidence, saying this helps investigations move faster.
Residents can report billing disputes, estimated billing, excessive charges, supply problems and other practices they consider unfair. LASCOPA said its mandate comes from the Lagos State Consumer Protection Law 2025, as amended.
Complaints can be made through its toll-free helpline, 080 0005 2726, on weekdays, or by email.
What happens next
The 28 cases still ongoing remain with the agency. Any Lagos resident with a billing or supply dispute can take it to LASCOPA, ideally with bills and receipts in hand.
