Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has started her re-election campaign across Kogi Central, ahead of the senatorial election scheduled for February 6, 2027.
Her media aide, Mike Idoko, said in a statement that the campaign featured roadside receptions in Okene and other communities, and ended with a gathering at the senator's residence in Obeiba, Ihima, in Okehi Local Government Area.
Punch reported the activities took place on Sunday. The Sun and Leadership said the campaign began on Saturday, 31 October. The accounts differ on the start date.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was accompanied by her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, and political associates.
According to her media office, thousands of supporters, party members, community leaders and stakeholders attended, with many staying at her Ihima residence late into the night.
PDP candidates for the House of Representatives seats in Adavi/Okehi, Ajaokuta and Okene/Ogori-Magongo federal constituencies also took part, along with the party's candidates for the Kogi State House of Assembly in the district.
What she told supporters
Addressing the gathering, the senator said her ties to the district were not tied to election season.
"My relationship with the people of Kogi Central goes beyond elections. These are my people, my family and the very reason I remain committed to public service," she said.
She thanked supporters for turning out, saying she would not take their confidence for granted.
On development, Akpoti-Uduaghan pledged to keep pushing for infrastructure, economic opportunities and other projects in the district. She singled out Ajaokuta, whose long-standing problems she said need sustained attention.
She also argued that good representation means regular contact with constituents and laws that respond to their needs, not just holding office.
What happens next
Her media office said further campaign stops will cover all five local government areas of Kogi Central: Adavi, Ajaokuta, Okehi, Okene and Ogori-Magongo.
For voters in the district, the coming months will bring more of these community visits, as parties line up candidates for the National Assembly and state assembly seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.
