  • Ogun police say suspected armed robbers snatched an unregistered red Lexus ES350 in Ogijo at about 2am on September 15.
  • The SWAT squad traced the car to Ondo State and brought it back to Ogun, the command said on Friday.
  • Police are still looking for other suspects and the Commissioner of Police urged owners to register their vehicles.

The Ogun State Police Command says it has recovered a stolen, unregistered red Lexus ES350 saloon car in Ondo State, months after it was snatched in Ogijo.

The car was reportedly snatched at gunpoint by suspected robbers at about 2am on September 15, 2026, in the Ogijo area of Ogun State. It had no registration number at the time.

The command announced the recovery in a statement on Friday by its spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi. He said operatives of the command's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) squad carried out the operation.

According to the statement, the Officer-in-Charge of SWAT, SP Obeh Eneye, ordered operatives to start investigations and follow leads as soon as the robbery was reported.

Babaseyi said those efforts led police to the vehicle in Ondo State, where SWAT operatives helped recover it and brought it back to the Ogun State Police Command.

Why it matters for car owners

Car theft is a real worry for many Nigerian vehicle owners, and getting a stolen car back is often the hardest part. Police say investigations are ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the incident and recover any other stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, praised the operatives for their diligence and professionalism. He restated the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, recovering stolen property and prosecuting offenders.

Ojajuni advised vehicle owners to register their cars properly and display valid registration numbers. He said this makes it easier for police to confirm ownership, identify vehicles and trace stolen ones.

He also asked residents to report suspicious activity quickly and give police credible information, promising that the command would keep working to protect lives and property in the state.

The police did not say whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the robbery.
