  • Quadri Liameed was kicked in the head during Sabadell's match against Albacete in Spain on October 31.
  • The midfielder lost consciousness briefly but was discharged from hospital after scans came back clear.
  • His father says he will undergo a concussion bike test and could face a long recovery.

Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed has been discharged from hospital after a frightening head injury during a Spanish second-division match, his club CE Sabadell have confirmed.

The 24-year-old former Nigeria U-20 player was kicked in the head by Albacete forward José Corpas during the game at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium on Saturday, October 31.

Liameed collapsed just outside the penalty area and briefly lost consciousness. Medical staff from both clubs rushed onto the pitch, fitted him with a neck brace and carried him off on a stretcher. An ambulance took him to Hospital Quirón Santa Cristina for tests.

Corpas was shown a straight red card for the challenge. The match was stopped for about nine minutes. Albacete, playing with 10 men, still won 2-1.

Sources differ slightly on the timing. Punch and The Sun put the incident in the 42nd minute, while Vanguard reported the 43rd.

Club confirms positive tests

Sabadell announced on November 1 that Liameed had been discharged after all his tests came back well. The club thanked Albacete's medical team for their help during the emergency.

The midfielder travelled back to Sabadell by car with a member of the club's medical staff and went home to rest.

His father, Hajji Gafar, told Bsnsports that his son is stable and will undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test within 48 hours as part of his recovery checks.

"My son is now in a stable condition... I am relieved and grateful," he said.

He added that he plans to travel to Spain within 10 days to be with his son.

What happens next

Liameed is expected to follow a special training programme before rejoining his teammates. Vanguard reported that the concussion protocol was deactivated after tests ruled out injury, so he did not need to stay in hospital overnight.

Corpas could face a ban of between four and 12 matches under Article 102 of the Spanish football disciplinary code if the incident is judged to have caused serious injury. The Spanish Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee has not yet decided on any punishment.

Born in Lagos on April 8, 2002, Liameed came through the Nigerian youth system and won a silver medal with the Flying Eagles at the 2019 African Games in Rabat. He started at Lagos club 36 Lion FC before moving to Spain, where he played for Lleida Esportiu and joined Sabadell in July 2025.
