Seyi Gambo has been elected president-general of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA), the body that brings together former students of Nigeria's federal unity schools.
Gambo won with 305 votes, beating Chinedu Amure, the outgoing vice president-general, who polled 212, according to results released by the association's Electoral Committee (ELCOM).
The vote took place at USOSA's 50th plenary and elective annual general meeting, held at the National Universities Commission in Abuja. The results were signed on 24 October by ELCOM secretary Tayelolu Ojo and chairman Ahmed Tijjani Lawal.

Why it matters
USOSA is one of the country's largest alumni networks, drawing members from unity schools across the states. Its leaders often speak on education policy and help fund projects in their old schools.
The new executives are expected to work with members and other stakeholders to strengthen the association and push its goals of unity, cooperation and development among alumni.
For ordinary Nigerians, that can mean support for school infrastructure, mentoring for students and a stronger alumni voice in debates about public education.
What happens next: The new officers are expected to take over from the outgoing leadership and set out their plans for the association's next term. No date has been announced for a handover.
