  • A pro-Tinubu movement was inaugurated in Osogbo on Saturday with a target of 1.5 million Osun votes in 2027.
  • Tompolo donated 30 vehicles and urged residents to give the President at least 90 per cent of votes cast.
  • Adeleke and Oyetola, both represented at the event, backed the target and called for support across party lines.

A political support group for President Bola Tinubu has set a target of at least 1.5 million votes in Osun State for the 2027 presidential election. The target was announced on Saturday in Osogbo at the inauguration of the state and local government structures of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, according to a statement seen by Punch.

The group's grand patron, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, donated 30 vehicles and other campaign materials at the event. He spoke through Kestin Pondi, managing director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited.

Osun has 2,339,233 registered voters, of whom 1,906,390 have collected their Permanent Voter Cards, according to figures in the statement. That makes the 1.5 million target roughly two-thirds of the state's registered voters.

What the backers said

Tompolo urged Osun residents to give the President at least 90 per cent of the votes cast, describing him as a fellow Yoruba man and calling on the South-West to unite behind him. He credited Tinubu's economic reforms with raising allocations to states, which he said had helped governors pay salaries and pensions and fund projects.

"We no longer have fuel queues. Our economy is stable," Tompolo said, according to the statement.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by his deputy Kola Adewusi, said the gathering showed parties and groups in the state were ready to work across party lines for the President's re-election. He urged the coalition to put aside past disagreements and deliver between 1.5 million and two million votes.

Marine and Blue Economy Minister Adegboyega Oyetola was represented by Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the APC's governorship candidate in the 2026 Osun election. Oyetola said support for Tinubu now stretches beyond the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and urged the South-West to turn that support into votes at polling units.

The movement's national coordinator, Sunday Asuku, said the state had close to two million votes up for grabs and asked residents to come out massively on January 16, 2027.

Why it matters

Osun is one of the South-West states where the President's party will look for a strong showing. The event also puts the state government and a federal minister in the same campaign line, even though Adeleke and Oyetola were represented rather than present.

The claims about fuel queues, a stable economy and prompt salaries are the campaign's own account and were not independently checked at the event.

What happens next: The movement says it will take its campaign to communities across Osun. The presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to the event's organisers.
