APC women's wing targets 40 million votes for Tinubu in 2027, says Betta Edu
- Betta Edu says Nigeria has passed the difficult reform stage and Tinubu's second term will bring prosperity.
- The APC women's mobilisation directorate is aiming for about 40 million votes for Tinubu and Shettima.
- Edu spoke in Kaduna during a visit to Deputy Governor Hadiza Balarabe ahead of the state's campaign flag-off.
The women's mobilisation arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign says it is working towards about 40 million votes for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 election.
Its co-chair, Betta Edu, announced the target in Kaduna on Thursday during a visit to the state's Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe, according to The Nation and Leadership.
Edu, a former minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, said the campaign would not rely on large rallies alone. She said the plan is to reach women in their homes, markets and communities, hear their concerns and make the case for the administration.
"We have gone through the reform phase already. Now it's time for prosperity," Edu said.
She argued that Nigerians have already borne the hardest part of the government's economic reforms and that a fresh mandate for Tinubu would allow them to enjoy the benefits.
Why it matters to voters
For many households, the cost of food, fuel and transport remains the main worry, and the government's reforms have been felt most at the market and the filling station. Edu's message is that relief is coming, though she did not give details of new measures.
She also asked women leaders in Kaduna to campaign peacefully, without pressure or intimidation, and praised Governor Uba Sani's work on roads, public transport and primary healthcare.
Balarabe, who the campaign describes as the first elected female deputy governor in Northwest Nigeria, said Kaduna takes its hosting duties seriously and has held several planning meetings for the flag-off. She said the state's standing as the political capital of the North means it must show strong organisation.
She urged the women's team to keep mobilising after the rally, saying the goal is to turn support into actual ballots.
"Our work as women is to tell all women to be on our side," she said.
What happens next
The APC is preparing to flag off its presidential campaign in Kaduna. The women's directorate says it will keep up door-to-door work across states in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
