Oborevwori launches Delta APC campaign council with 'MORE Plus' theme for 2027
- Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has inaugurated the state APC campaign council ahead of the 2027 elections.
- He unveiled 'MORE Plus' as his re-election theme and urged members to take the party's message door to door.
- The council is chaired by Oborevwori, with Senator James Manager as director-general.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has formally set up the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council for the state, telling members to carry the party's message beyond rallies and into homes, markets and polling units ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration held on Thursday in Asaba, the state capital, where the governor also presented "MORE Plus" as the slogan for his re-election bid. The original M.O.R.E Agenda covers infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers' welfare, youth empowerment and security.
Oborevwori said the council's job is a call to service and asked coordinators at local government and ward levels to strengthen their structures and work with support groups so the party's message reaches every polling unit. He wants members to engage market women, youths, workers, farmers and traders directly rather than relying on large gatherings alone.
Campaign on record, keep the peace
The governor said the APC should campaign on what it has done in government, both at federal level and in Delta, but added that members must be ready to explain those achievements clearly to voters. He also promised that politicking would not slow down ongoing projects and programmes in the state.
He appealed to politicians and their supporters to keep the peace, avoid hate speech and not let political differences divide the state.
Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme praised Oborevwori for aligning Delta with the Federal Government and urged party members to build on that by working for victory in 2027. He asked them to publicise federal achievements in local government autonomy, education funding, security, electricity and road infrastructure.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo defended President Bola Tinubu's economic reforms, saying the decisions were difficult but necessary. He acknowledged the reforms had brought temporary hardship, and said they were meant to fix underlying problems including the cost of fuel subsidies.
Delta APC Chairman Solomon Arenyeka said the inauguration showed the party is ready to contest and win at all levels. Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, speaking for Delta North, said expectations are high since the state's mass defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April 2025, and urged the council to reach voters directly.
O'tega Emerhor spoke for Delta Central, while former Secretary to the State Government Ovuozourie Macaulay represented Delta South and said the governor's record would help the campaign. Former APC National Woman Leader Stella Okotete urged women to mobilise harder, setting a target of at least 75 per cent of votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
Senator James Manager, the campaign council's Director-General, described the assignment as a heavy task that needs collective effort and sustained grassroots work. Oborevwori chairs the council, with Chiedu Ebie as Deputy Director-General.
What happens next
The council now moves into ward and local government-level mobilisation across Delta's three senatorial districts, with the 2027 general elections as the target. For ordinary residents, the governor's pledge means state projects are expected to continue through the campaign period.
