  • Galatasaray's Aleksei Batrakov says Victor Osimhen is a perfectionist who will do anything to win.

  • Osimhen scored in Galatasaray's 4-2 Champions League win at Lille on October 21 after a groin injury.

Victor Osimhen's Galatasaray teammate Aleksei Batrakov has described the Super Eagles striker as a perfectionist who will do anything to win, in comments that shed light on how the Nigerian is seen inside the Turkish champions' dressing room.

Batrakov, a Russian midfielder, told Forza Cimbom that he understood Osimhen's drive from his very first training session, when the squad held a mini-tournament among themselves.

"Osimhen is a perfectionist. Top-notch in every sense," Batrakov said.

He also recalled a penalty shootout after a 2-2 training match, when Osimhen handed him the final kick and then ran the length of the field to celebrate with him after he scored.

"He will do anything to win," Batrakov said, calling the gesture incredible.

Why it matters to Nigerian fans

The praise comes at a useful moment for Osimhen, who returned from a groin injury and faced scrutiny from Turkish media and pundits after going three matches without a goal against Kasimpasa, Barcelona and Genclerbirligi.

He answered the critics on October 21, scoring in Galatasaray's 4-2 Champions League win away to Lille. That goal took his tally in European competitions for the club to 14 and ended his Champions League drought.

Osimhen, 27, has insisted the criticism did not shake him and that nobody can dictate how he plays. He also stressed that Galatasaray's success as a team matters more than individual recognition, saying the club is bigger than any player.

For Nigerian fans, the striker's form and fitness are closely watched, with the national team's fortunes usually resting heavily on his goals.

What happens next

Osimhen and Batrakov will hope to help Galatasaray beat rivals Fenerbahce in the Turkish Super Lig on Monday. A strong showing in the derby would keep the conversation on his football rather than his scoring droughts.
