The gist
  • Music executive Don Jazzy has donated N5m to Nancy Chidinma, who needs N7m for surgery and care for recurring ear keloids.
  • Chidinma said the growths followed a badly done ear piercing at birth and have kept her in pain and out of work.
  • She said she had not yet received the credit alert and hoped the delay was a bank issue.

Music producer and Mavin Records boss Michael Ajereh, known as Don Jazzy, has sent N5m to Nancy Chidinma, a woman raising money for surgery and follow-up care for recurring ear keloids.

The producer announced it on his X account on Saturday with a short post: “5M sent.”

Chidinma, who posts on X as @EgoKuwait, had asked the public for N7m to cover the treatment. She said she had not yet received the credit alert and hoped the delay was a problem with her bank.

In a message thanking him, she wrote that she had seen him help many people online but never believed it would reach her.

Why the money is needed

According to Chidinma, the keloids developed after an ear piercing done at birth was carried out incorrectly. She said her parents tried several treatments over the years, but the growths kept coming back.

She said she has had several surgical removals in general and private hospitals, usually followed by Kenalog injections, and spent two years on cryotherapy at a bumps clinic. The cryotherapy left the left side of her body weak and painful, she said, yet the keloid returned.

She is seeking care at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after delays in getting a surgery date. A consultant there, she said, explained that the treatment would mean surgical removal, then radiotherapy and post-operative care to lower the risk of the keloid returning.

Her breakdown puts the surgery at N1.2m, which she said she has already raised. Two radiotherapy sessions at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) are estimated at N2.5m each, making N5m. Post-operative care, including chemotherapy, injections, medication and silicone creams, is put at about N2m.

That brings the total to N8.2m. With N1.2m raised, she needs the remaining N7m before 19 November, she said.

Her appeal got wider attention after X user Akwaugo tagged Don Jazzy in a reply to her post, asking him to help. Chidinma also thanked everyone who reposted her plea, tagged the producer or encouraged others to give, and shared another bank account for donors whose transfers had failed.

What happens next

The N5m covers most of the N7m she still needs. Chidinma said she is waiting for the alert to land, and the surgery depends on the remaining funds and a date at LASUTH.
