Family and friends remember Modupe Dada, wife of AFRIMA president, two years on
- Family and friends gathered at her Lagos home to honour Modupe Dada, who died two years ago.
- Her husband, AFRIMA president Mike Dada, recalled her patience and extraordinary capacity to forgive.
- A pastor urged the family to celebrate her life rather than mourn her death.
Family members and friends of the late Modupe Temitope Dada gathered at her residence in Ikeja, Lagos, to remember her life two years after her death, recalling her kindness and the way she treated people.
Mrs Dada, who was born on 5 May 1976, died on 19 October 2024 at Duchess Hospital in Ikeja after a brief illness. She was a banker and served as Vice President of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), where her husband, Mike Dada, is president and Executive Producer.
At the time of her death she was a branch manager at Keystone Bank Limited.
A life remembered
Pastor Femi Paul, Head Pastor of Grace Assembly Church, officiated the gathering. He told the family to draw strength from their faith and to celebrate the life she lived rather than let grief overshadow her memory, saying death is an inevitable part of life.
Her husband, Mike Dada, described her as an extraordinary woman whose capacity to forgive stood out. He said she helped him become a better person and taught him patience, understanding and how to show love and respect without expecting anything in return.
He said the two years since her death had been difficult, especially as he adjusted to raising their children and managing the home without his partner.
Dada also spoke about the 48 days his wife spent in a coma before she died. He said the experience had deepened his appreciation of family and taught him about grief, and that he was thinking of writing a book about it to help others value their loved ones while they are alive.
Family members and friends also shared their own memories, describing her as generous, compassionate and forgiving.
For those who knew her, the gathering was less about mourning and more about keeping her example alive.
