Nigeria's Flamingos are through to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after a 3-1 win over defending champions North Korea in Rabat on Friday.

The victory, under coach Akeem Busari, left Nigeria second in Group B with six points from three matches. The Flamingos will now meet the runners-up of Group F.

That opponent will be known tonight, after the final Group F games. Spain have already qualified after beating Mexico and Australia, and Mexico sit second after their own 3-1 win over Chile. Chile and Australia, both on one point, can still go through.

Chile play Spain, while Mexico take on Australia. Whoever finishes second in that group meets Nigeria.

What happens next

The Round of 16 match is fixed for Thursday, 29 October in Sale, Morocco. For Nigerian fans, it is another chance to follow the country's young team on the world stage, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Beating the defending champions is a strong result for the Flamingos, and it means Nigeria go into the knockout round with momentum. The team will now wait to see which of Mexico, Chile or Australia stands in their way.
