Kelechi Iheanacho found the net again on Sunday, and this time it earned him a place in the Turkish record books. The Super Eagles striker scored in Bursaspor's 4-2 win over Keçiörengücü in the Turkish 1. Lig, the country's second division.
His 50th-minute goal at Aktepe Stadium put Bursaspor 3-2 up and made it 12 league appearances in a row with a goal. That beats the record he already held, having scored in 11 straight league games before Sunday.
According to Daily Post, Iheanacho now has 16 goals in 12 appearances for Bursaspor.
How the game went
It was a lively first half. Keçiörengücü went ahead in the seventh minute through an Emirhan Başyiğit own goal, but Amine Boutrah levelled for Bursaspor eight minutes later.
Lewis Baker put the visitors back in front in the 35th minute, only for Oğuzcan Çalışkan to equalise two minutes before half-time. Iheanacho then struck five minutes after the break, and Lincoln made it 4-2 in the 66th minute.
The former Leicester City and Celtic forward has become a key part of Bursaspor's attack since joining the club, and his run of goals is now the longest scoring streak in Turkish football.
Why it matters back home
Nigerian fans follow the Super Eagles strikers closely, and Iheanacho's form is welcome news with the national team always in need of goals. A player scoring week after week in Turkey gives coach and supporters something to smile about.
For Bursaspor, the win keeps their campaign in the second division moving. The club will be hoping their Nigerian forward stays fit and keeps finding the net as they push on this season.
