- Enyimba, nine-time champions, sit 19th with eight points from 10 games and are winless in three.
Nasarawa United made it four wins in a row on Sunday, beating Enyimba 1-0 at the Lafia City Stadium in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday 10 game.
Jofrank Joshua scored the only goal in the 23rd minute. The hosts held on for all three points, and the result lifted the Solid Miners to third place on the table.
Nasarawa United coach Mbwas Mangut praised his players but said the scoreline should have been wider.
"We should have scored more goals, but the three points are more important,"
Mangut told the club's media, according to Complete Sports and Daily Post. He said his side has now kept five clean sheets in a row and is improving game by game.
Enyimba's tough run continues
Enyimba coach Emmanuel Deutsch admitted the better team won. He said his side also had a chance, in the 92nd minute, but could not take it.
"It was a very tough game for us today. They took advantage of their chance,"
Deutsch said, adding that he believes Enyimba will recover from their current problems.
The Aba club, nine-time Nigerian champions, are now winless in their last three league games. They sit 19th with eight points from 10 matches, a worrying position for a side with their history.
For Nasarawa United, the run has brought 13 points from five games, according to their coach. Fans in Lafia will hope the team can keep the momentum going as the season settles.
What happens next
Nasarawa United travel to Kano Pillars next weekend. Mangut said his team will go for maximum points, noting that Pillars beat them home and away last season.
Enyimba will host Kun Khalifat FC in an oriental derby at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
