MultiChoice, Stained Glass TV to make new psychological thriller

The gist
  • MultiChoice and South African producer Stained Glass TV are developing a new African psychological thriller.
  • The title, cast and where it will show are not yet known, so Nigerian viewers cannot plan on it.
  • The deal was announced at FAME Week Africa 2026, after Stained Glass's Netflix hit The Polygamist.

MultiChoice, the company behind DStv and Showmax, is working with South African production house Stained Glass TV on a new African psychological thriller. The two companies announced the project at FAME Week Africa 2026, in a session that also featured executives from Canal+ and StudioCanal.

For Nigerian subscribers, the practical question is simple: will they be able to watch it, and on what? MultiChoice has not said whether the thriller will land on DStv, on Showmax or on another platform. It has also not named the title, the cast or a release date.

Nomsa Philiso, MultiChoice's Chief Content Officer for Africa, called the partnership a "full-circle moment" for the two companies, which have worked together on several African dramas. She said Stained Glass keeps pushing creative boundaries and makes stories that speak to African audiences.

Why this matters to Nigerian viewers

MultiChoice is now part of the French media group Canal+, and it is putting more money into African-made shows as international streamers compete for the same viewers. For Nigerians, that could mean more African series sitting alongside Nollywood titles on DStv and Showmax, though nothing is confirmed for local screens yet.

Stained Glass TV was founded by Kobedi "Pepsi" Pokane and sisters Thuli Zuma and Gugu Zuma-Ncube. Its past work with MultiChoice includes The Wife, Lingashoni, Ifalakhe and eHostela.

The new project follows the international run of Stained Glass's Netflix drama The Polygamist, adapted from Zimbabwean author Sue Nyathi's 2012 novel and directed by Akin Omotoso. It debuted on 12 June 2026. Netflix said the 22-episode series spent seven straight weeks in its Global Top 10 for non-English shows, which reports described as the longest such run for a South African title. Reports also said it drew 19.1 million viewing hours in its first week and peaked at third on the global chart.

The series also stirred debate over how it portrayed polygamy and African traditions.

Separately, MultiChoice confirmed a second season of Die Kantoor, the South African version of the comedy The Office. Season one started on kykNET and Showmax in January 2026 and picked up five nominations at the kykNET Silwerskerm Film & TV Awards, winning two. Whether Nigerian audiences will get it has not been confirmed.

What happens next: Watch for MultiChoice to announce the thriller's title, cast and platform. Until then, Nigerian subscribers have no confirmed date for the show.
