NUC approves six new courses each for EKSU and UNIOSUN
- Ekiti State University has won approval for six new undergraduate programmes from the 2027/2028 session.
- Osun State University got the green light for six postgraduate programmes, including four PhDs, this session.
- Both universities say the National Universities Commission cleared the courses after checks on staff and facilities.
Two state universities have won approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run new courses, opening fresh admission chances for students in Ekiti and Osun.
Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, will start six new undergraduate programmes from the 2027/2028 academic session, while Osun State University (UNIOSUN) will begin six postgraduate programmes in the 2026/2027 session.
What EKSU will offer
According to a statement from the university, the NUC approval came in a letter dated 22 October 2026, signed by Dr Ayuba Mohammed, the commission's Acting Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of its Executive Secretary.
The new EKSU courses are BA Christian Theology, BSc Transport Management, BSc Security and Investment Management, BSc Information and Communication Technology, BSc Industrial Mathematics and BSc Criminology.
The university said the approval followed a visit by panels of experts who checked the staff and facilities available for the programmes. It added that the NUC barred the courses from being run part-time and said their approved names must be kept.
EKSU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatola Ayodele welcomed the news, saying it moves the university closer to its goal of academic excellence and innovation. He thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his support.
UNIOSUN goes postgraduate
UNIOSUN said its six new programmes are four doctoral degrees and two Master of Engineering degrees: PhD in English Language Education, PhD in Measurement and Evaluation, PhD in Chemical Engineering, PhD in Agricultural Engineering, M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering and M.Eng. in Agricultural Engineering.
The university's Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, said the courses have been added to the postgraduate application portal for the ongoing admission exercise.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye described the approval as a milestone in expanding postgraduate education and building research capacity, and urged qualified candidates to apply through the official portal.
EKSU hopefuls will have to wait for the 2027/2028 admission window, while UNIOSUN candidates can apply now through the university's postgraduate portal.
