Over 1,000 Lagos children to attempt fabric marbling world record
- More than 1,000 children will gather at Onikan Stadium, Lagos, on November 11 for Colors of Possibility.
- Organisers want a Guinness World Record for the largest fabric marbling painting.
- The event is led by Dr Foladavid, who set a drawing record in 2024, and backed by a ₦10 million creative fund.
More than 1,000 children are expected at Onikan Stadium in Lagos on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, for an art event organisers hope will set a Guinness World Record for the largest fabric marbling painting.
The event, called Colors of Possibility, is the idea of Dr Foladavid, a Nigerian medical doctor, visual artist and Guinness World Record holder. In 2024, his artwork 'Unity in Diversity' earned him the record for the largest drawing by an individual.
Fabric marbling is a technique where colours are floated on a specially prepared liquid surface and then transferred onto cloth. For this attempt, children from schools across Lagos will work with Dr Foladavid on one continuous stretch of fabric, each adding their own design to a single large piece.
Children with special needs will take part in the record attempt, and organisers say inclusion is central to the project. Preparatory sessions have already introduced pupils to fabric marbling ahead of the event.
What it means for young creatives
Beyond the record attempt, the day will include live performances, special appearances and hands-on creative sessions for the children.
The initiative is powered by 78MFB and includes a ₦10 million Bank78 Creative Fund. Organisers say the fund is meant to keep the project's impact going after the event by supporting emerging young creatives.
According to the organisers, the gathering is also about creativity, belonging and equal opportunities for children. Educators, artists, entertainers, public institutions and corporate organisations are expected to take part.
It builds on Dr Foladavid's earlier work using art for social connection and cultural expression, but this time the focus is on collective creativity rather than one artist working alone.
What happens next
The event holds at Onikan Stadium on November 11. Whether the attempt enters the Guinness World Records books will depend on the organisers meeting the record body's conditions and verification.
