Tonto Dikeh tells church wealth is not always from rituals or immorality

The gist
  • Tonto Dikeh told her congregation that not every wealthy man is a ritualist or every rich woman immoral.
  • She said many people built fortunes by developing talents and working hard for years.
  • The clip from her New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle address circulated on Instagram this week.

Nollywood actress turned preacher Tonto Dikeh has pushed back against the common Nigerian belief that sudden wealth must come from rituals or other shady means.

In a clip from a service at her church, New Wine Prophetic Tabernacle (NWPT), which began circulating on Instagram on November 3, 2026, she told members that hard work and talent explain many fortunes.

"Not every rich man is a ritualist, and not every rich woman sleeps with men for money," she said, according to accounts of the address carried by Legit.ng and Naija News.

She said some people spent years building a gift before their efforts paid off, and that some of them do not even know God.

Why it matters

Her words touch a sensitive nerve in Nigeria, where success is sometimes greeted with suspicion. A young man driving an expensive car can be whispered about as a "yahoo boy" or worse, and a wealthy woman is sometimes assumed to have traded her body for money.

Dikeh asked her listeners to look inward instead. "There's so much power in you to produce wealth," she said, urging them to sharpen their talents rather than leave them unused.

She also questioned the idea that God belongs only to believers, saying the same God is for everybody.

The clip drew mixed reactions online. Some fans agreed with her, with one commenter saying wealth does not always come from evil and that hard work and discipline can also create success. Others were less impressed, with one asking why she was preaching in anger and another calling the message old-fashioned for 2026.

Dikeh has in the past shown public support for fellow actress Regina Daniels, leaving a warm comment on a birthday post about her in October 2026.

Neither Dikeh nor her church has issued a formal statement beyond the circulating clip.
