Rice rescues Arsenal in 2-2 draw at Bayern as Madrid hit Leipzig for four

The gist
  • Declan Rice equalised in the 82nd minute as Arsenal drew 2-2 away to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
  • Eberechi Eze had put Arsenal ahead before Alphonso Davies and a Harry Kane penalty turned the game.
  • Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig 4-1 for a third straight European win, with Kylian Mbappe among the scorers.

Arsenal needed a late goal from Declan Rice to leave Munich with a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Eberechi Eze gave the Gunners the lead in the 25th minute, but Alphonso Davies levelled ten minutes later after a pass from Harry Kane. Kane then put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot in the second half, before Rice struck in the 82nd minute to earn Mikel Arteta's side a point at the Allianz Arena.

The result leaves Arsenal on seven points from three Champions League games, while Bayern have five. According to BusinessDay, it is only the second time Arsenal have dropped points in 12 matches across all competitions this season.

Bayern were without the in-form Michael Olise, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich and Jamal Musiala. Coach Vincent Kompany, who had been a doubt because of illness, was well enough to take his place in the dugout.

Kane's penalty was his 16th goal in 23 appearances against Arsenal and stretched his scoring run to 10 straight Champions League matches, one short of Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 11, BusinessDay reported.

Madrid make it three wins from three

In Madrid, Real Madrid thrashed RB Leipzig 4-1 to keep a perfect record in Europe under Jose Mourinho.

Bernardo Silva scored his first goal for the club since joining in the summer, prodding in from close range at the end of a tight first half. Arda Guler doubled the lead in the 52nd minute, turning home after Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe combined.

Mbappe bent in a third after Yan Diomande, the club's record 140 million euro signing, pulled the ball back to him. Tidiam Gomis pulled one back for Leipzig before Diomande volleyed in a fourth late on from a Brahim Diaz cross.

Vinicius started on the left flank for Madrid, with the Brazilian still serving a four-match ban in La Liga. He was replaced by Diomande with about 20 minutes left and cannot play again until Madrid visit AEK Athens on November 4.

The win was Madrid's fourth in a row in all competitions and boosts morale before Sunday's Clasico against Barcelona, who lost at Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
