Comedian and actor Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has said a stray bullet struck his hip in March this year, keeping him off work for months and leaving him unsure he would perform again.

He told the story in a video posted on his YouTube page on Wednesday night, ending months of silence about why he had disappeared from screens.

According to him, the shot came as he and his team were leaving a brand activation. "We were done with the activation, we were already leaving, and all of a sudden, I heard a loud bang," he said. He recalled touching his hip, seeing blood and realising he had been hit.

He said he lost consciousness before reaching hospital and woke to fear. "All that was in my mind was just to survive, I didn't want to die," he said.

Reports differ on the exact setting. Punch and The Sun said the incident happened while he was filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State. Legit.ng also placed it near the bridge, while BellaNaija said he was returning from a shoot and got stuck in traffic. Vanguard put the date at March 9, 2026.

The Ogun State Police Command said earlier it could not confirm whether the incident happened within the state. Its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, asked the public not to spread unverified information while investigations continued.

From hospital bed to crutches

Broda Shaggi said he was first treated in Lagos before being referred to another hospital for specialist care. Legit.ng reported he was taken to Blooming Care Hospital in Alakuko and later to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja.

He said he had surgery in Nigeria but was told he needed more treatment and physiotherapy. After about four months, he travelled to Dubai for another operation. He said he stood with support on the second day after that surgery and walked with crutches on the third.

The injury worried him because his comedy depends on movement. "I was worried how do I do 'Oya hit me' without my leg," he said, referring to one of his popular routines.

He also spoke about the emotional weight of watching colleagues work while he could not. "There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh and sometimes I would just start to cry," he said.

He said he has not fully recovered. "I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support with the crutches," he said.

He described surviving as a second chance and promised fans new projects. "You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen," he said.

What happens next

No arrest or court case has been announced in connection with the shooting, and the police have not confirmed where it happened. Broda Shaggi says he is working on new material, though he still needs crutches for support.
