The gist
  • Florence Otedola, known as DJ Cuppy, shared a video of meeting Prince William.
  • She said the heir to the British throne promised to check out her music.
  • Cuppy also spoke of pride in being the youngest patron of the Amos Bursary.

Nigerian disc jockey Florence Otedola, better known as DJ Cuppy, says she met Prince William of the British royal family, and that he promised to check out her music.

Cuppy shared a video of the meeting online and wrote about the moment. "HRH Prince William saying he'd check out my music was definitely not on my 2026 bingo card!!" she said, according to her post.

She also used the moment to highlight her work with the Amos Bursary, a scheme that funds talented Black students and invests in their futures. Cuppy said she is proud to be the bursary's youngest patron.

In the same post she joked about the promise, adding: "Now, Your Royal Highness, about that DJ gig."

Royal connections

The meeting is the latest in a run of royal engagements for the Otedola family. In May, Cuppy shared photos and clips of a date with her mother, Nana Otedola, at Buckingham Palace.

Earlier this year she posted pictures with King Charles, saying she was on ambassadorial duties. Her father, businessman Femi Otedola, praised her at the time for representing Africa in her role as an ambassador of the King Charles Trust International.

For many young Nigerians, the story is a reminder of the doors that scholarships and mentorship can open. The Amos Bursary, where Cuppy is the youngest patron, supports Black students with funding and long-term investment in their education and careers.

What happens next

Cuppy's fans will be watching to see whether the royal listen actually happens. For now, the DJ appears to be enjoying the moment, and using it to draw attention to the students the bursary backs.
