The gist
  • Veteran actor Jide Kosoko said he sometimes fears working with Funke Akindele because of her demanding standards.
  • He told African A-List she can shoot a scene up to 15 times and reshoot scenes the next day.
  • Akindele reacted by sharing the interview clip on X with laughing and monkey emojis.

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has said he sometimes gets scared when filmmaker Funke Akindele calls him for a role, because of how exacting she is on set.

Kosoko made the remark in an interview with African A-List, where he praised Akindele's energy, dedication and attention to detail. He said working with her can be demanding: she sometimes insists on shooting a scene up to 15 times to get the result she wants.

He also said she can decide to reshoot scenes the following day after spotting details that need correcting, even when the cast and crew have already moved on. Kosoko described her as exceptionally hardworking, adding that her energy is difficult to match.

Akindele responded by sharing the clip of his interview on her X page, adding laughing and see-no-evil monkey emojis.

Not the first word on her sets

The reaction is the latest comment on Akindele's reputation for strictness during production. Veteran actor Afeez Oyetoro, widely known as Saka, has defended her, saying in an interview on FeelrightTV that her firmness is part of what it takes to run a big-budget film with many people involved.

Oyetoro said Akindele treated him well when they worked together and described her as caring and humble.

For fans of Nollywood, the exchange offers a behind-the-scenes look at how some of Nigeria's biggest films are made, and at the pressure actors face when a director is determined to get a scene right.

Neither Kosoko nor Akindele has suggested any falling-out. His comments came across as praise for her work ethic, and her emoji response suggested she took them in good humour.
